As a rule, we find what we look for; we achieve what we get ready for.
— A quote from James Cash Penney
Roadturn Principle: There is no free lunch.
“Lucky you!”
Everyone loves a compliment.
But when you’ve worked your tail off to get what you have — whether a flat stomach, a well-paying job, or well-mannered children — and someone tells you how “lucky” you are, it’s tough not to shoot back with “There wasn’t any ‘luck’ to it… just plenty of hard work.”
We live in a microwave, take-a-pill society. Many people are looking for the quick and easy fix that’ll allow them to reap the benefits without doing anything to deserve them.
The smart ones, though, know that’s a load of hogwash.
There is no ‘free lunch.’ Somebody paid the price and made the sacrifice to supply everything we are or have.
Everything.
Even nature obeys the principle: there is no ‘take’ without ‘give.’
The old saying, “No pain, no gain,” is absolutely right on. To get different results, we have to do different things.
Lucky?
Self-discipline, not luck, is the straight path to progress. You find what you look for, and you achieve what you prepare yourself to achieve. God provides the talents, but you decide what to do with them.
