Saturday.
Shabbat.
The original day of rest.
Workout and weight-loss programs sometimes incorporate a weekly “off day.”
You can eat anything you want. Spoon up a gallon of ice cream, if you wish.
Take a break. Treat yourself. Live large.
Do Free Day Plans Work for Weight Loss?
I followed Bill Phillip’s Body for Life Program, back when it first began.
Part of the plan was to take a “free day” every week.
I loved the idea.
What I found, though, was that six days of working my butt off at the gym, while following a rigorous daily diet, diminished my desire to pig out on the seventh day.
Why would anyone push that hard to get a few steps ahead, then take a giant step back as a “reward”? For me, Body for Life was the most successful get-in-shape plan I’d found before getting started with The DEEP.
Not only did I lose fat, but I gained muscle. My waist size went way down, and my energy level pulsed. Loved it. If you’re looking for an intense experience, Body for Life can provide it.
I prefer The DEEP and The Roadturn Reboot because it’s a more balanced plan — one built to last a lifetime. Most folks (me included) can do the other programs for a few months, perhaps, but invariably end up back in the weeds.
The Roadturn plan recommends a day set apart and special every week, but not a day to eat until you drop. It’s more for stepping back and being grateful, for appreciating how far you’ve come and how much effort you’ve put into getting there.
Did I mention that I love Saturday? It’s the best day of the week!
Reboot Logbook Day #21
Today was a winner in all kinds of ways. Once you get past the shock of changing how you eat, you want to eat better. The longer I stay on this path, the more I want to be here.
Body – 3: I followed my eating plan and worked out a bit. An excellent day physically.
Mind – 3: Considerable distraction today, but I did sit in on a webinar, read a little, and engage in discussion.
Spirit – 3: Started with The DEEP, appreciated nature, and welcomed the Sabbath.
God is good, and His mercy endures forever!
