The Roadturn Reboot – Getting Started

Leaning heavily on the “Practice what you preach” concept, I’m launching a personal reboot today.

This isn’t my first reboot ever, but it is the first time I’ve done the Roadturn Reboot in this format. It’s a new concept, one that could pay off huge for anyone who chooses the DEEP path of whole-person development.

My aim is to prove its effectiveness.

If I don't know where I am, I can't say whether or not I'm closer to my goal. If I focus too much on where I am, I'll never get there.Click To Tweet

Basic Components of the Roadturn Reboot

This can change as time progresses, but here are the overall principles I’ll follow:

  1. First off, I’ll be working with The DEEP daily. If you’ve yet to get started with that program, here’s complimentary access to the audio version: Go DEEP! The DEEP is at the top of my task list every day. I use an “Up and At It” tool to track when I get out of bed and when I finish the daily DEEP. Being aware of that gap helps me understand where my time and focus are going.
  2. The Roadturn Reboot works with the whole person: mind, body, and spirit. The observations in this personal reboot logbook (i.e. daily posts) will necessarily look at all three every day and look at ways to monitor each (you can’t change what you don’t measure).
  3. I’ll tell you the truth. No smoke blowing. If I get off track, I’ll fess up and keep moving.
  4. You may not care to track as closely as I do, or you may think tracking should be more exact. I shoot for balance. If I don’t know where I am, I can’t say whether or not I’m closer to my goal. If I focus too much on where I am, I’ll never get there.
  5. The bottom line is “Don’t quit. Never quit. Never give up.” Let’s encourage one another to do that.

Reboot Logbook Day #1

To begin, I’ll score myself (1-5) on how much effort I put into each component. I’ll then briefly comment on the reasoning. The higher the number, the more I did what I know I should do. The low end is acting like a slug. The high end is game time:

Mind – 3: I walked through some fairly tough relationship turmoil today. I didn’t run. I didn’t get boiling angry. I remembered to seek the high road. I failed, however, to take time to exercise my mind with study or planning. My work was fairly rote and technical today.

Body – 3: I went for a brisk walk along the canal at sunset, and did a little bit of work in the garden. I also kept my food intake on a high nutritional plane, and I didn’t take in too many calories. Seeing that today was my birthday… that’s amazing.

Spirit – 2: I did The DEEP this morning, but that’s about it. No meditation and no serious prayer time. When Spirit is low, the others get derailed too.

That’s all there is to it. Simple and straightforward.

All told, I fought the fight. I didn’t run and hide. I kept walking forward.

Yes!
