Despite another stirring performance, Jonathan and Charlotte lost to a dog act at Britain’s Got Talent. Many fans were outraged, but the young duo seemed to take it in stride. Their second-place showing still brought widespread attention (and rumors of a record deal) their way.
How about you? Have you ever given it your all and still not finished first? Has life brought disappointment your way? I’ve certainly had my share–sometimes it seems my lot in life is to try and try and never quite get it right.
Second Chronicles tells the story of the building of the Temple. David wanted to take on the job, but wasn’t allowed to do it. His son, Solomon, was given that privilege. In chapter six, Solomon prays:
“O LORD, God of Israel, there is no God like you in all of heaven and earth. You keep your promises and show unfailing love to all who obey you and are eager to do your will. You have kept your promise to your servant David, my father. You made that promise with your own mouth, and today you have fulfilled it with your own hands. And now, O LORD, God of Israel, carry out your further promise to your servant David, my father. For you said to him, ‘If your descendants guard their behavior and obey my law as you have done, they will always reign over Israel.
And that reminds me of another prayer, the one where Jesus (Yeshua) was asked to teach his disciples to pray. He said, “Thy Kingdom come; Thy will be done.”
Maybe … just maybe … my disappointments come when I am seeking my will and not the Father’s. Today, I want to turn that around. I want to follow hard after the Father and let go of my own misguided plans.
How about you? Will you join me?
