Blessings in disguise

It turns out that this is not my last term as a Humanities major–the powers that be denied my capstone proposal and have requested a re-submittal. What a headache. It will delay my graduation for six months, since I am not able to attend school this summer. Oh well.
It turns out, though, that this may be one of those “blessings in disguise.” Since I can’t enroll in the capstone course this semester, I am taking my first information technology class. Wow. I was proud of myself for sticking it out and learning to use WordPress, but I have barely touched the edge of the technology. There is much to learn.
Have you heard of SSH? I hadn’t, until today. SSH stands for “Secure Shell” and it is used on networks to execute commands and allow the secure transfer of files. How about telnet servers? That’s one that sounded familiar, but I had no idea what it was about. Telnet is a terminal emulation program that allows you to connect to and manage a server from your desktop. The internet truly is an inter-net. Interconnection is the key.
The go to company for an SSH Client, is the one who serves most of the Fortune 500 bunch. That is Pragma Systems, out of Austin, Texas. I like their motto: “Secure Connectivity Done Right,” and I am loving the opportunity to get introduced to the ones who are making it happen worldwide. Thank you to my capstone advisor for helping me to advance my knowledge of all things relating to the internet. Great stuff!
