“Follow your heart and do your best work…”

Today is the day that Bloggers Unite has designated as “Acts of Kindness Day.” All I know for sure about this group is their webpage declaration of being “an initiative designed to harness the power of the blogosphere to make the world a better place.” That sounds like a real good plan, to me. I was challenged by the group to “do something good, offline” and then to post about it on December 17th. I, in turn, pass that idea on to you. I know that many of my readers author their own blogs…let’s unite for the good of people, worldwide.
Given the news about Dan Fogelberg, I am not going to tell you about something great that I have done–instead, I will use this post to brag a bit about Dan. Wikipedia says that he used his music to address social issues, among them peace and Native American concerns. He was particularly outspoken about his commitment to the environment and to finding alternatives to nuclear power. A quote from the biography on Dan’s website says, You’ve got to just follow your heart and do your best work. For better or worse, I have followed my heart. There is no doubt in my mind or heart that everything I’ve done is exactly what I intended to do.
On the news page, a note reads:
Sunday, December 16
Dear friends,
Dan left us this morning at 6:00am . He fought a brave battle with cancer and died peacefully at home in Maine with his wife Jean at his side. His strength, dignity, and grace in the face of the daunting challenges of this disease were an inspiration to all who knew him.
Reading further, there is an earlier writing by Dan, thanking the fans for their support and encouraging them to take prostate cancer seriously. A Living Legacy link is given for those who wish to express their ”Good wishes, prayers, and condolences.” May God continue to bless and keep Dan Fogelberg.

The next event has not yet been announced, DIY. Previous challenges were on September 27th (Bloggers against Abuse) and July 18th (Organ Donor Awareness.) I, too, look forward to seeing what the next topic will be.
